Welcome to my collection of wine paintings : "From Palate to Palette" featuring this time "Liquid Gold"
For me, being able to paint the world's most famous sweet dessert wine was a great joy!
And I created a new challenge for myself - capturing the action as the wine churns up yellow and gold bubbles in the glass below.

After four centuries of wine making Château d'Yquem sits in a commanding, fortress-like, position overlooking most of Sauternes*. Only highly skilled and permanent workers tend the vineyards that produce fruit of compelling concentration and intensity; each vine produces enough grapes to make just one glass of Château d'Yquem wine!!! It is considered by many wine experts as "liquid gold" thus the title of the painting!
Fun Fact: the gold colour comes from the intensity of the grapes.
Fun Fact: Château d'Yquem only chateau in Sauternes* with the Premier Cru Superior status
Fun Fact: in 2011, a bottle of Château d'Yquem 1811 sold for a white-wine record of $117,000. Apparently sold to Christian Vanneque, who had been a sommelier at one of the one of the top Parisian restaurants, La Tour d'Argent, .
*Sauternes is a region of the Graves section in Bordeaux.
